Sainik Schools

Sainik Schools are residential schools established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society governed by Ministry of Defence with a military bias. These schools are affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education and have a common curriculum, system of selection and examination.

They were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the Officer cadre of the Indian Military, and to prepare students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune and Indian Naval Academy. Today there are over 24 such schools covering all the states of the country.

Admissions in Sainik School are meant for boys only. The entrance examination is held for admission to class VI & IX. Boys who are between the age of 10-11 years and 13-14 years respectively on 1st July of the year in which admission is sought are eligible to take the examination.
